Career Day, hosted by Fashion Group International of Dallas, was conceived as a way to provide a philanthropic, educational outreach program for college and university students seeking careers in the fashion and lifestyle industries. This is the longest-running and largest fashion career event of its kind in the U.S.! Nearly 1,200 students and faculty attend annually. The program provides career opportunities and insights; hands-on access to companies offering internships and entry-level jobs; interaction with industry leaders, mentors and role models; and
- most importantly - merchandising and design competitions with cash awards and scholarships.
Career Day features:
- Inspirational opening keynote and luncheon keynote
address by note-worthy industry leaders.
- More than 20 educational seminars and workshops, including panel discussions on
relevant industry topics.
- Career Resource Exhibition of companies and organizations offering information
and advice, internships, and career opportunities for student participants.
- Student design, merchandising, and trend board competitions with over 700
student entries.
- Fully staged runway show putting hundreds of student designs
from schools nationwide on professional models.
Seminars and exhibitions are hosted by some of the industries foremost companies and leading professionals. Speakers share their day-to-day activities and real-time experiences with student participants. In addition, several university graduate programs are represented for those who wish to continue their education. In partnership with the Texas Department of Agriculture, we grant over $30,000 in scholarship funds and awards along with other cash and merchandise prizes.
Career Day is held each spring at Dallas Market Center’s World Trade Center (WTC) complex, and classes are held in the heart of Fashion Center Dallas. This venue gives students a first-hand view of the inner workings of the 15-story market where all categories of today’s marketable products are shown. This event attracts the finest university educators and students from over 40 schools across more than 12 states.
