What: FGI of Dallas Career Day 2008 is the longest-running and largest fashion career event of its kind in the U.S.

Presented by the Fashion Group Foundation of Dallas with support from the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).

When: Friday, April 11th, 2008, 8:00 am. 4:30 pm

Where: 2050 Stemmons Freeway World Trade Center. Dallas, Texas

Featuring:

  • Event-opening keynote address by a note-worthy industry leader. Student fashion design and trend board competitions with over 1000 student entries.
  • Fully staged runway show putting hundreds of students' fashion designs from schools nationwide on professional models. Over 120 trend board entries will also be on display.
  • 23 educational workshops (3 panel discussion /  20 seminars sessions) available to all students and faculty participants.
  • Career Resources Exhibition of companies and organizations offering information, internships, and career opportunities for student participants.
Key Awards and Scholarships:

  • Dallas Career Day 2008: available funds for scholarships is $10,000.
  • Top Achievement Award: Scholarship to the Paris American Academy in Paris France with a total value of $5,000.
  • TDA Best of Show Garment receives a Janome sewing machine valued at $2,500.
  • DAVACO's Merchandising Award of Excellence: Cash scholarships totaling $2,000.  
  • The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) sponsors a denim jacket competition with prizes totaling $1,000.
  • Several other scholarships and awards will also be awarded.
Details:

  • FGI of Dallas Career Day 2008 is a one-day educational event created to mentor and develops tomorrow's leaders and entrepreneurs in the fashion, beauty, and home environments industries.
  • The largest event of its kind in the U.S. and among all FGI Regional events worldwide.
  • Fashion show produced by RSC Show Productions, commentated by Rhonda Sargent
    Chambers.  Models provided by Kim Dawson Agency, Campbell Agency and The
    Page Parks Agency.
Background:

  • Career Day is a 40-year tradition that has recognized over 6,500 young designers and provided an educational forum for as many as 31,500 students.
  • Career Day 2007 drew 1,200 participants from 42 schools in 10 states and hosted a Career Resource Exhibition that featured 23 exhibitors.
  • FGI of Dallas Chapter, in recognition of its contribution and excellence in hosting FGI of Dallas Career Day, received the FGI Educational Outreach Merit Award in 2002, 2003, 2006, & 2007.
